Biography

I certainly guess that who was in Sicily in the 2003 will remember the sultry weather infesting the island.

It's not the best way to begin to play when the weather is really hot, boxes are white-hot and heat causes so much sweatin; but Nick le Sax and Mr Mazza don't really care about it when we were talking with Misu il Bohémien (bass player), an high school old acquaintance, about a new musical project.
Misu was looking for new musicians to create a reggae band, but the singer and the saxophonist were thinking about something different,a new ska band with many stylistic influences.
Consolidating the project, they should begin to find good elements to make this bold enterprise.

In this way Sottocosto’s story began, Sottocosto (lol) i remeber they risked to call the band Saracineska ( oh my God,it was a very stupid name... in Italy i mean ).

Fortunately we thought that for a good Band is important to find also a good name and then we spent many days to find it but i explain the name of the band later...
The opening band besides Mr Mazza, Nick le Sax and Misu il Bohémien, was composed by Samuel el Pibe (trumpet), Michael Il Bello (saxophone) and Skalogero (trombone), friends and also collegues of Nick at the Acadamey of Music "Vincenzo Bellini" in Palermo.
The starting guitarist was Paolo Sabella, Mr Mazza’s friend and at the keybords and at the drum two unhappy musicians... Don’t call them please... they are so sad and unlucky...

This two man were replace by two very special musicians: at the drum il Sinfo, drum player of the Academy of Music of  Palermo, besides good pianist; and Mr Reeko powerful guitarist, lover of analogic effects (he build his guitar effects). At the same time Paolo Sabella left the band for the Italian Army and then...Mr Mazza, Misu Il Bohémien, Sinfo, Mr Reeko,Nick le Sax, Samuel, Michael and Skalogero became "The Sottocosto".
For many months, The Sottocosto played in smelly box from wich we always were evicted.
Mr Reeko began to arrange the first songs, Nick wrote some riffs for the saxophones, trumpet and trombone and Mr Mazza wrote the lyrics that became real songs by the ideas of the remaining members. Songs with many musical influences jazz, punk, reggae and latin   and others, for this, The Sottocosto is a 360° band.

For the fans The Sottocosto were born the 19th of December 2003 and every days they try to make happy and good music ska for their supporters.
Maybe someone is trying to figure out why their name is The Sottocosto.

Well, ask it to Michael. One day enlightened us saying "what a f**k, it’s to simple find a name for a band": we became The SOTTOCOSTO.
